RED CORAL- THE GEMSTONE OF SEVEN TREASURES

As the first creature existing on Mother Earth, red coral is often used to make ornaments and jewelries because of its huge energy field. Red coral is also classified in Buddhism Seven Treasure beside nacre, agate, amber, golden tin, silver tin and pearl

1.    Origin

Red coral, scientific name Corallium Rubrum, has dark red colour and often lives in rocky sea bottom with low sedimentation, or in dark caverns or crevices.

Red corals have the shape of small leafless bushes and grow up to a meter in height. Their valuable skeleton is composed of intermeshed spicules of hard calcium carbonate, colored in shades of red by carotenoid pigments. In living specimens, the skeletal branches are overlaid with soft bright red integument, from which numerous retractable white polyps protrude. 

Red coral takes a lot of time to develop, it can be up to dozens years. So when exploiting, we have to pay attention to use right harvesting method, and harvested at the right time to insure its colour and usage.

 

2. Usage 

Because of its nutrients and accumulation of calcium for a very long time, red coral is often ground into powder and used as a kind of medicine in oriental medicine. The main uses of red coral are cooling, detoxifying, sedative and healing injury of bones. 

Since ancient times, our ancestors have used red corals for children to promote the excretory system, enhance the body activities and minimize the fatigue.

In addition, the scientists also discovered that red coral contains compounds that help to protect against UV radiation, prevent harmful elements to skin 

 

3. Meaning

As considered as a thousand years old treasure of the world, red coral is found in many important and special heritage of Tibet and Egypt medieval culture. Besides, red coral always appears in the temples because it is believed that this is one kind of spiritual power gemstone, and it shows the respect to the Gods and Buddha.  

With the huge energy field inside, red coral has a very good meaning, it can banish evil, turn bad things into good things, make someone wealthy, bring owner peace and happiness.

Red coral also has a very important meaning in Buddhism because red colour represent the appearance of Buddha so it is often used to make bracelet, beads rosary. Because The Buddha and other Bodhisattva have clear mind so by only using the most pure treasures, people can connect with them. 

In many places around the world, red coral is also considered as a symbol of happiness and eternity.
