TURQUOISE – TIBET NATIONAL STONE

Turquoise is the natural stone which is either blue or green and believed to be the gemstone of the God of Happiness

1.    Origin:

Turquoise was discovered from 500 BC and called Callias - which means the beautiful stone. But in the 13th century, when this gemstone was brought to France for widely usage, it was called by the more familiar name “the stone from Turkey” and the name Turquoise became well known since then.

Located mainly in Iran, Myanmar, America, Ethiopia, Turquoise which scientific name Biruza is formed by the interaction between copper and other stones contains alumina (Feldspar) and phosphorus (apatite) in weathering condition 

Although its hardness is not equal to quartz, this gemstone still stands at a level 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale and hard to be cracked or damaged. Turquoise blue color is formed by copper, green colour is made by iron and divalent chromium

2.    Usage:

Turquoise has a special compatibility with the throat, heart and forehead chakra. The researchers believe that Turquoise has an ability to help cleansing the throat, as well as healing sore throats; clearing the lungs, improving the ability to communicate by verbal or words, helping us to express our feelings. It is also said that it will change colour when the owner is in danger or risk of illness

Be a balance and energy regulation stone, Turquoise is worn to improve health, protect the owner from bad energy, sober from evil spirit, balance the mind and reduce unnecessary anxiety

3. Meaning:

The Persians believed that “The one that wore a Turquoise is never seen in poverty”.  Indigenous American people often decorate masks, jewelries, ritual objects with this stone because they believe that this blue stone can directly open the connection between the sky and the ocean. In addition, in the Middle Ages, Turquoise is considered to have a power to protect owners from hazardous environments.

In Tibet, Turquoise is believed to help the owners resist the dark power, it also helps to dispel evil spirits. Turquoise is used so much in daily life and spiritual life that many people think that this is the national stone of Tibet.
